Paying for library services
Current Library charges (October 2020)
Many of our services are free to members but there are some things we charge for:
- Late return
- inter-library loans
- Hire of adult audiobooks
- Printing and photocopying
- Lost or damaged items
- The loan of music sets
- Public Access PC charges for Non Library Members
You can pay library charges in person when you visit any library.
Public Access PC Charges
Library Members can use the public access PCs free for a maximum of 2 hours per day. Non Library Members/visitors will be charged £1.00 per hour (or part hour) up to a maximum of 2 hours per day.
Reservation and Inter-Library Loan Charges
- Library members can place up to 10 reservations for free, using the online catalogue.
- We also offer an inter-library loan request serviceOpens new window to request books not available from Gloucestershire library stock. The charge for this service is £5.00. This charge is non-refundable, and no concessions apply.
Books - Late return
We charge for overdue items.
- Adults: 20p per day, per item charged 7 days per week
- Children and young people up to 18 years old:
First week - no charge
Additional weeks - 15p per week (or part week) per item
The maximum fine for each book is £9.20
Keep notes of due dates and renew your items regularly to avoid overdue fines.

Printing and photocopying charges
The following fees apply for printing and photocopying:
- Black and white A4 - 15p per sheet
- Black and white A3 - 30p per sheet
- Colour A4 - 80p per sheet
- Colour A3 - £1 per sheet
- Microfilm reader prints - Black and white A4 - 15p per sheet, A3 - 30p per sheet available at Cheltenham Library (£1 per sheet at Gloucestershire Archives)
Printing for local and family history enquiries from service users outside Gloucestershire*:
- Black and white A4 - 50p per sheet
- Black & White A3 - 60p per sheet
- Microfilm reader prints - £1.00 per sheet (available at Cheltenham Library and Gloucestershire Archives)
*These charges cover the extra administrative and postage costs involved.
Replacement library card
Adults £1.00 per card and children 50p per card but free with a crime number evidencing theft. There are no concessions to this charge.
Lost or damages (per item)
Books
- Full cost of replacement (from approved library supplier, with labels and security added)
Inter-library loan (ILL)
- Full cost of replacement and admin costs
Single audio CD (part of a set)
- £5 each
Music scores and sets: lost part
Missing items must be replaced with an identical edition and binding otherwise full cost of replacement and admin costs
Play set: lost part
Missing items must be replaced with an identical edition and binding otherwise full cost of replacement and admin costs
Room hire and other charges
We provide a range of services from fax (only at Gloucester Library) to room hire for meetings and conferences.

Concessions
You may be eligible for some concessions if any of the criteria below apply to you:
- Customers who are blind or visually impaired
- Customers who are hearing impaired
- Customers who are housebound
- Customers with learning disability
- Students on literacy or foundation English courses
- Customers who are dyslexic or whose ability to read is impaired
- Children up to age 18
- Children in care
- Unemployed people
- People who are of no fixed abode or in receipt of a means tested benefit. Universal Credit, or any of the benefits it replaces: Child Tax Credit; Working Tax Credit; Housing Benefit; Income Support; Income-based Job Seekers Allowance and Income-related Employment Support
- People in receipt of pensions credit
Library staff retain the right to ask for proof of entitlement to any of the above concessions.
